Overview
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the immune system and eventually leads to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The immune system is what the body uses to fight off infections. HIV is part of a group of viruses called lentivirus which literally means “slow virus”. It is a part of this group because it takes such a long time to have any apparent side effects on the body.
