What is Atherosclerosis?

Heart disease is a group of conditions affect the structure and functions of the heart and has not many root causes. Coronary artery disease, for example, develops plaque builds up in the arteries that supply blood to your heart, a process called atherosclerosis.

This is a case where the arteries become clogged with fatty deposits (usually known as plaque). When the arteries get clogged, they lose their elasticity and become narrow. This slows down the passage of blood. Plaque is made up of fatty substances such as cholesterol, calcium and waste products from cells.  Atherosclerosis is a slow and progressive condition that can occur anywhere in the body.
