Symptoms

Atherosclerosis usually does not cause symptoms until its complications occur. Sometimes chest pain could be indicative of atherosclerosis build up in the coronary arteries.

 

Causes/Risk factors

Some factors that could increase ones risk of developing atherosclerosis are:

Elevated levels of cholesterol and triglyceride in the blood

High blood pressure

Tobacco smoke

Diabetes

Family history of heart disease

High fat diet

Obesity
