There are many aspects of Parkinson’s Disease that effect a person, their loved ones and care givers psychologically. The three aspects this webpage focus on are mood, relationships, and attitude.
Parkinson’s is a degenerative disease, which currently has no cure, but is not fatal and there are many treatment options that help manage symptoms. The number of Americans with Parkinson’s is approximately 1.5 million (Reference) and 100,000 Canadians, (Refrence but it also affects countless people indirectly. Often the effects on caregivers, family members, or loved ones are not thought of, so it is important to recognize that any disease diagnosis affects more than just the person with the illness. The degenerative nature of this makes the patient increasingly dependent on others. This will affect both the care giver and the patient psychologically. Hopefully you be able to find valuable information on this site to understand the disease and it’s psychological effects better and therefore be better able to cope with the challenges of this disease.
