Anorexics think they are larger then they really are, even though their body may appear totally starved.
Anorexics will tell parents, friends and therapists that they look fat and that they need to lose more weight.
Anorexics draw pictures of themselves as being chubby and helpless, showing patches of fat on their bodies that they want removed, therefore these patients are afraid of eating because they think they will get fat.
Studies show that in homes where mothers talk about being fat, 81% of the girls said they felt fat too.
Treating anorexic nervosa involves major lifestyle changes. Not only must eating habits be altered but the individual must adjust his or her self perception to no longer hold a distorted body image.
The Four Main Treatment Goals:
1) gain and maintain weight.
2) to have normal ways of eating.
3) to assess and treat psychological problems in the patient.
4) to make families aware of the disorder and how it is effecting the patient.

Body image disturbance usually interfere with the patient’s motivation to get better until the patient is able to accept she has a disorder she will feel that people are lying to make her eat.
