Welcome to a web site devoted to children and pain. In this site you will find some helpful information about pain and comfort measures that can be used for children.

Pain is defined by the International Association for the Study of Pain as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience..." (iasp-pain.org)

If something causes pain to an adult, it also causes pain to a child.

Pain is useful in protecting and preventing futher damage to a person. It alerts us to when something is wrong and needs attention. It is good for a child to learn to tell someone when they are having pain. But children sometimes do not say when they are having pain, in fear that they will experience more pain, like having a needle.

Children will experience pain in their life. There are methods available to help to lessen and treat pain effectively. Pain in early childhood can lay the foundation for pain response later on in life for the child.
