![]() The plight caused by nursing shortages in developed countries has resulted in the global mobilization of foreign educated nurses (FENs). Coming from all over the world to live and work in North America, particularly Canada, FENs bring their own experiences, education, language, diversity and culture. However, the transition from nursing practice in their home countries into nursing practices of the host country are not without challenges. The process of accreditation and evaluation of credentials, diversity and cultural orientation and competency, and English language proficiency are just some of the difficulties that FENs face. It is very essential that internationally educated nurses are able to identify their own needs and are prepared to deal with these challenges prior to leaving their own country; thus facilitating and improving their integration into the workforce. These common challenges are further described in this web site. |
