head

A concussion or mTBI (mild Traumatic Brain Injury) is an injury to the brain which occurs with a direct or indirect hit to the head or a hit to any part of the body that results in force being transmitted to the head.

  • This injury will temporarily change how the brain cells work.

  • The length of time this change will last varies between individuals.

  • Concussions often go undetected as symptoms may not be visible to others.

  • Of all team sports, ice hockey has the highest incidence of concussions (Koh, Cassidy & Watkinson as cited in Brooks & Hunt, 2006)
