- The Canadian male population is 49% (CNA, 2004).
- Men in nursing only represent 5% of the 246,575 nurses in Canada (CNA, 2004).
- In British Columbia, there are 28,289 registered nurses but only 4.8% are male (CRNBC, 2006).
- In comparison, Netherlands has a male nurse population of 23%, and Germany and the Philippines also have substantial male nurse populations (Whittock and Leonard, 2003).
