There are few methods of testing an individual for Diabetes.
The Canadian Diabetes Association recommends testing all individuals
over the age of 40 every 3 years, or if one displays risk factors
they are tested more frequently.

METHODS FOR TESTINTG DIABETES:

#1. Fasting Plasma Glucose Test

measures your blood glucose after you have gone atleast 8 hours without eating. This is the preferred test for diagnosing Diabetes due to the convenience and reliability. A blood level of 126 mg/dL or above, confirmed by repeating the test another day, indicates that one has Diabetes.
#2. Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

measures your blood glucose after you have gone at least 8 hours without eating, and 2 hours after you drink a glucose-containing beverage. A glucose level of 200mg/dL or above, 2 hours after drinking the glucose beverage, confirmed by repeating the test on another day, indicates that one has Diabetes.
#3. Random Plasma Glucose Test

your doctor checks your blood glucose levels without regard to when you ate your last meal. A random blood glucose level of 200mg/dL or above, along with the presence of the following symptoms: increased urination, increased thirst and/or unexplaind weightloss, indicates that one has Diabetes. This test will be confirmed on another day by your doctor using one of the other above described tests.
