Bikram Choudhury
  • Born in 1946 in Calcutta, Bikram began yoga at the age of 4
  • Founded the worldwide Yoga College of India in 1974 in Los Angeles, where he still teaches.
  • At 13, he won the National India Yoga Championship and retained the title for the following 3 years. He retired as the undisputed National India Yoga champion.
  • At 17, he suffered a serious knee injury during a weight-lifting exercise and Doctors predicted that he would not walk again. He refused their prognosis, and went back to his teacher Bishnu Ghosh. 6 months later, he made a total recovery from his knee injury through yoga.
  • To-date, there are over 1200 franchise training centers all over the world.

Bhakti Yoga:
  • The Spiritual practise of fostering a loving devotion to God.


Hatha Yoga:
  • A method of physical exercises that emphasizes specific postures and breathing to control the body and attain union of the self with the Supreme Being.


Karma Yoga:
  • "The discipline of action". It is based on the universal principal of cause and effect. A yoga attained through selfless action and selfless service.


Kundalini Yoga:
  • A physical and meditative discipline, comprising a set of techniques that uses the mind, senses and body to create communication between "mind" and "body". It concentrates on psychic centers or chakras in the body to generate spiritual power.


Raja Yoga:
  • Yoga that is based on directing energy to bring the mind and emotions into balance.


Tantra Yoga:
  • a type of yoga designed to awaken the kundalini energy in the body and addressing relationships and sexuality through rituals
