Bullying is an event that is experienced in almost every age group, but it is most prevalent in adolescents. It is an aggressive behavior that is intended to cause harm or distress, it occurs repeatedly over time and it is in a relationship in which there is an imbalance of power or strength (Fleming and Towey, 2002). This form of harassment has been present in the school setting for several decades and it has severe consequences on the mental and physical health of its victims. According to a World Health Organization survey, students in grades six, eight and ten showed that about one third of Canadian students reported being bullied at least once, and one third to one half admitted they have bullied others (YIB, n.d.).
