Things you need to bring home baby
Car seat:
You must have a car seat to transport your baby home from the hospital. Make sure the seat is in working order and that you know how to position your baby in it. Be sure to read the instructions on how to install the seat in the car. Car seats never go in the front seat. If someone has given you a car seat make sure to research the make and model to be sure there has been no safety issues attributed to the seat.
Diapers:
If possible, stock up on infant diapers before your baby is born. Generally, newborns will wet their diapers 6-8 times per day.
Blankets:
Newborns have limited abilities in maintaining body temperature and loose heat quickly. Make sure to reduce drafts from windows or air conditioners. Cover surfaces you place the newborn on with blankets. Be sure to have towels and blankets ready following bathing and dry your newborn quickly. Have plenty of jumpers for your baby, as they may need to be changed several times per day.
Basinet/Crib:
Make sure you have a safe place for your newborn to sleep. Newborns need to sleep on their backs and should not have pillows or teddy bears in the crib with them. Be sure to check make and model of any equipment that has been given to you to make sure they are safe.
Support:
You will need plenty of support during this time. Enlist friends and family to help you during this transition. Having plenty of meals prepared beforehand can help during this time.
