Treatment of mild-moderate dehydration
- For exercise-related dehydration, cool water is your best bet.
- It is better to give frequent small amounts, rather than forcing a large amount of water.
- Electrolyte solutions or Sports drinks containing electrolytes and a carbohydrate solution also may be helpful to replace lost electrolytes. However, Sports drinks contain a lot of sugar which can cause diarrhea.
- For infants and children, avoid using only water as a means to replace fluid loss. Children need fluids containing electrolytes, such as Pedialyte.
